Blondie

Genre

Sonoran Gothic: vampire horror, dark fantasy and border noir (Trauma Horror / Border Horror-Noir)

Themes

Surviving trafficking; performance versus being seen; identity and the body; what a family owes a stranger

Tone

Brutal and close-up for most of its length, with a quiet, tender turn at the end.

Tropes

fledgling vampire, morally grey heroine, monstrous heroine, grumpy mentor, found family

Heat level

Implied only. Vampires in this world can't have sex, so any spice stays off the page.

Ending

Resolved, not a cliffhanger: it closes on a hopeful, quiet note, while the mystery of who turned her stays open for the series.

Where to start

You can start here. It opens on the night both leads are turned and needs no earlier book; it is the first book in the Levantadas' timeline.

Content note

A psychological exploration of trauma, survival, and supernatural transformation. Contains references to trafficking and abuse within a survivor-focused narrative. Mature themes, restrained depiction.

Who it's for

Readers who like dark vampire origin stories, survivor heroines who fight dirty, and found family earned the hard way on the border.

If you enjoyed

The Dresden Files, the Mercy Thompson series, Tom Clancy's novels, or the movies Abigail and Sicario.

Length

Prologue + 18 chapters, 90,384 words.

Blondie introduces herself, in her own voice: Bogotá, the route north, and the grave behind a Circle K outside Nogales she climbed out of.
